Congratulations Lily and family!

Thomas's good friend Lily became a big sister on Wednesday, June 11! Congratulations to the family on the birth of Sarah Ellen. I was so excited to just see new picture of her on the blog and we can't wait to meet her in person. She is adorable!

Parker is so excited that he can have a friend of his own, just like Thomas has with Lily! How neat that it has worked out the way it has.

We hope those first newborn days are going well! Playgroup on Wednesday, right? Just kidding...

A bad haircut, but good times

I mentioned that Thomas got a bad haircut yesterday. It was a lesson for me to either A) request the person I like to cut his hair, or B) be very clear about what I want anyone else to do. I've had pretty good experiences with his other two cuts. This one... not so much. It's how we went from this a few days ago:

To this:

Neither of those are particularly good hair shots, but you should get the point...slightly wet head and all. So oh well. I guess it will grow back. And it's not that the cut is horrible, it's just not what I wanted AT ALL and it gives him a look that I don't want. Oh well. Once again, I'll say, it will grow back.

As promised, here are a few more pictures from the past week...

Nannie & Papa came to babysit on Saturday night so that Trey and I could go to a party for some friends. We had a good time (hard to believe I went "out" so early this time around!), and the kids did fine. My parents were very brave and also babysat my 12-week old niece. Everyone lived to tell the tale. :) Anyway, before we left, we let Thomas play in the baby pool in back. We obviously need to get a bigger pool this summer! Here is his best Hulk impression:

And here he laughs at my funny faces as his Papa looks on:

As I've mentioned before, Thomas loves Bob the Builder. When his Nana saw something in the store recently, she just HAD to get it for him. A little outifit with Bob on it (or so we tell him). He thinks its great!

He has become a bit "shy" (or so he likes to ACT) when we take a picture of him lately. Silly boy...

And oh yes, there is another little boy around this house. He has spent the majority of his first six weeks sleeping. This week, however, he has not been going down without a fight sometimes. At least I have found that he finds it hard to resist the slumbering powers of the swing (just like his brother). Thank goodness for that contraption! It takes up a lot of space, but it's worth every inch!

He also has enjoyed finding his thumb (or entire hand) when he gets the chance:

I'd love to find out how much he weighs now. He seems like he is so big!

Yesterday I decided to give our lawn a much-needed drink and tried to encourage Thomas to get out and play in it. It took some work (and demonstration) but he finally started figuring it out. Last summer he'd just sit there and basically sit on top of it. This summer, not so much...yet!

Another look at that haircut I love so much...

He was "hiding" from the sprinkler by getting behind me. He loves looking at himself in the camera window thing:

Parker supervised from his perch on the porch...

Oh, the bouncy seat. Another great invention!

Well, my naptime solitude has come to an end. Time to release the hounds...or the boys, however you want to look at it. At least their Dad comes home tonight!!

Brothers

Parker is not quite six weeks old, but already he and his brother are starting to build their bond. It's fun to be able to talk about "my boys" and it's going to be so much fun watching them grow as brothers. I thought I'd share a few recent pictures of them together...

Two weekends ago, the first time Thomas got to hold his brother all by himself!

And last Friday Parker had his first bottle, and Thomas had to make sure he supervised the occasion. Too bad he couldn't keep his eyes open! :)

This past weekend Thomas held Parker again (with his Daddy's help this time). Or, as Thomas says: "Thomas hold Parker, okay? Okay!" Does he look proud, or what?

Last night I had to put Parker in Thomas's crib for a little bit of tummy time while I got Thomas in his pajamas. Thomas wanted to get in the crib so badly. He was trying to get in from every side!

Finally I agreed to let him get in as long as he was very careful!

And as an aside, after looking at those last pics I must remind myself how quicky Thomas's hair grows. He got a haircut this morning and I can't say I'm very pleased with it. At least he's a boy. We'll just call it a summer cut.

More pics later. I have several more I want to share, but Parker is not being my usual nap star today, and Thomas has been having a really hard time getting to sleep at night (up until at least 10 the past two nights, though I put him down at 8), so I'm going to get him up from his nap early!

Summer camp

No pictures with this one, but I feel like I must document the occasion...

The place where Thomas will go to school (2 half days a week) in the fall is holding camp during the summer (much less structured than the regular school year). You can send your child for whatever time you want (2, 3, or 5 half or full days). We wanted to get Thomas acquainted with his school, and give me a little free time with Parker, so we signed him up for two weeks of 2-half days in June and two weeks of 3-half days in July. Tuesday was his first day and it went great!

Before Parker was born, we never had a problem leaving him somewhere (though we haven't done it that often), but since Parker's birth we've left him twice and he's not fared so well. The first time was at the church nursery and we got paged to come get him after about 15 minutes. So that's why I had a little bit of anxiety about leaving him yesterday. I had been talking it up for a couple of days. The night before and all the way there yesterday morning though he kept saying, "Mommy coming?" and I'd say, "No, mommy is going to take you to school and you will stay and play and mommy will go bye-bye and come back and get you in a minute."

As soon as we arrived in his classroom he went to the toys right away and started playing without hesitation (just as he did when we attended the open house a couple weeks ago). But then when the teacher said something to him like, "Thomas, we are going to do some painting today ... and then go on the playground!" he immediately could tell that meant Mommy was leaving so he came to me with a very worried look on his face. He tried crawling into my lap (I was crouched down while wearing Parker in a wrap on my chest) and I could tell he was about to get upset. The teacher encouraged me to tell him a good goodbye and then go. So I told him goodbye and I think I was still lingering so the teacher said, "Okay, your mommy gave you a good goodbye" so I knew that was my cue to leave.

I was able to take Parker and run several errands and that was nice. I arrived back on time to get him and the kids were all on the playground. Thomas was having such fun he didn't want to leave! I had to ask him about 10 times before he finally came along...only with the promise that he would be coming back in a couple of days. He goes back again tomorrow and two days next week! Already I'm looking forward to his time there in the fall.

Sweet boys

Wow! Two posts in one day! Make sure you see them both!

Parker's daddy wasn't too thrilled with the pictures I posted for his one month update. I agree they weren't the greatest and didn't really show what a sweet little boy he is. And since his Daddy is on the road, I know he needs some good pictures. So I just quickly snapped a few pictures while he is napping just to make his Daddy happy. :) I hope he likes...

I couldn't decide which angle I liked best, so I am sharing them all...

And this one that he has seen before, but I haven't shared here...

As for Thomas, today his friend Lily came over for a playdate. They had a good time together, though I think Lily wasn't quite sure what to make of all of Thomas's boy toys! She was probably most comfortable checking out books at his table. Unfortunately this is the best picture I have of it!

Afterwards we went for lunch at one of Thomas's favorite spots, Moe's! I wish I had a camera when we were leaving. I was carrying Parker in his carseat, so Lily's mom was helping me shepherd Thomas (and Lily) out. She suggested to them that they hold hands, so they did. We were seated at the back of the restaurant, so they walked, hand in hand, all the way across the place and it was the sweetest thing ever. So many people were "ahhhhing" at them. Thomas had this huge smile like he couldn't be more proud to have such a pretty little girl beside him. Next time I must have a camera!

Good food, great tree, bad ants

A few weeks ago, Trey & Thomas discovered a great little restaurant/country store on John's Island (Cindy's) after a trip to the beach (right after Parker was born and Trey was on paternity leave). Trey has been wanting to take me back there ever since, so Saturday we decided to go and it was great. It has a wonderful play area for kids:

That's Thomas's "Say cheese!" face. :)

Thomas definitely approves of this restaurant...

And he definitely approves of a hot dog!

Afterwards we decided to stop by the Angel Oak tree (estimated to be over 1,400 years old) on the way home. It's a mighty big tree...

Thomas says it is very BIG!!!!

And it makes for a good picture...

Or two...

(Parker likes to throw his head back, so believe it or not, he made himself be that way because he likes it).

But on this day, not more than two pictures. Why? Because on this day Thomas learned all about fire ants. They are not nice. They do not make for good photo ops. First one bit me. Then two bit Thomas. Then one bit Trey and we got out of there before one made a move on Parker.

Thomas wasn't crazy about the mean ol' ants, but survived with a little badge or two of courage:

Hopefully he (nor any of us) have to meet any ants again any time soon!

One month old!

It's so hard to believe that Parker is already ONE month old! Today as I sat and looked at him in my lap, I already couldn't believe how big he is. It's sad to see how fast it all happens! Today at the grocery store I was wearing him in a wrap and a lady asked to see him and then asked if he was 3-4 months old!!! I guess he is a big baby!

I'd like to get a larger stuffed animal (more like Thomas's puppy), but until then, this little rabbit will have to do. It's the only thing that is really HIS! :) Oh the life of a child of hand-me-downs...

Parker has been a very good baby in his first month of life. Until the past couple of days, this what Parker looked like for at least 90% of the day...

On those rare occasions when he is awake, he makes the funniest little faces. Here's a sampling:

Here's one of his best old man faces:

This is his "I think you might want to check my diaper" face:

This is his "I'm on to you, lady" face:

But he is adorable. He does make smiles here and there (usually while sleeping), but I've yet to really capture one on camera. I have a lot of pictures like this one. No smiles, but still cute!

I'm not sure yet what Parker thinks of his big brother, but Thomas sure thinks his little brother is pretty neat. He is quite the close talker with him sometimes:

But whenever Parker is around, he just wants to be near him. Tonight, while I was feeding Parker, Thomas kept asking to get in my lap. Once Parker finished, I told Thomas I'd put Parker down and let Thomas have his turn in my lap. As soon as I put Parker down, Thomas no longer wanted me to "Hold ya! Hold ya!"

For as much as I don't want my boys to grow up too quickly, I do look forward to watching them develop their relationship as brothers. One month down! A very full lifetime yet to go!
